How it works
Vat photopolymerization uses light to cure selected areas of liquid resin. Laser-based SLA, projected-light DLP, and masked LCD systems differ in how they expose each layer.
Watch resin printing in action
This 82-second animation follows a bottom-up LCD/MSLA printer, from slicing and light exposure to washing and post-curing. It also explains how laser SLA and DLP use different exposure systems. Motion, geometry, and layer height are simplified for clarity.

Materials you can use
Photopolymer resins are formulated for different properties. Match the resin, wavelength, and processing requirements to your system.
Where it shines
Useful for miniature figures, detailed prototypes, and specialized patterns. Washing, post-curing, and support removal are part of the complete process.
Plan the whole workflow
Plan a suitable work area, follow the resin safety data and machine instructions, and prevent contact with uncured resin. Keep cleaning waste out of household drains. The appropriate curing cycle depends on the formulation.
A real machine to explore
Formlabs Form 4 is an example of this printing family. It illustrates the process; this is not a hands-on review or a buying ranking.
